How is the English Speaking Environment
Created?
from
Tony, everyone's favorite Guiri!
An environment that is able to teach
a language is one that, by definition, teaches the student how
to live, operate and think in a language other than their
native tongue.
Both Maria and I noticed during our
first couple of years in Spain that, in more than 90% of the language
schools that we came across, teaching curriculums were book
and grammar related as the foundation of the learning process.
We quickly took issue with this philosophy citing that this was
a teaching philosophy that may work for teaching Spanish to Spanish
natives, but definitely would NOT work in an English speaking environment
where the phonetic aspect of the language, in our opinion, does
not permit this type of teaching if your intent is to teach the language
for integration within a global society that relies more and more
on English each day.
What we have worked hard at doing at
English Unlimited is create an environment where our students
have a situation that will enable us to give them the
same learning opportunities to learn language that our completely
bilingual daughter has within our home. We
have given them an ample support collection of:
-
Student Film Library (over
160 titles)
-
Student
Library (full length novels and short stories galore)
-
Internet (ADSL dedicated connection)
-
CD-ROM interactive games to develop
English skills
-
Supplementary
lessons to complement our book curriculum (over 1000 categorized
lessons)
-
Supplementary
educational video lessons (e.g. Magic English for the kids, TV
Series ‘Friends’ for the adults)
-
Interactive
lessons, etc. Available to our students on-line at
English Unlimited
-
Native,
qualified, TEFL Certified professors who know how to teach you English
as a native would learn it
We are always looking for new ways
to innovate and improve the service we offer our students as well
as the needs of the community that we teach within.
We encourage a constant communication link between students and
parents and we are always available to discuss your particular
learning needs and progress.
